Payment trends are changing rapidly
As recently pointed out by the CEO of DIAS SA Stavroula Kambouridou, the developments in the payment landscape at the international level are shocking and are reflected naturally in the trading habits of the Greeks. Consumers are now showing a particular preference for digital wallets, while gradually moving away from cash on delivery and cash. It is indicative that in 2025 the income from payments worldwide is expected to approach 2.5 trillion. dollars. According to Ms. Kambouridou, consumers are increasingly using mobile phones to make electronic transactions, such as shopping, compared to desktop transactions, which have been declining significantly in recent years.
In 2021, the number of e-commerce transactions carried out internationally is approaching for the first time the level of transactions via POS in physical stores and in 2025 it is predicted that it will reach 59% of the total internationally using the smart phone (smartphone) to goes beyond desktop use in online shopping.
Transactions through DIAS SA
Due to the pandemic crisis, in the first quarter of 2020 there was a 26% increase in the number of transactions carried out through DIAS on an annual basis, which was due to the payment of benefits for Covid-19 and the shift of citizens to electronic payments. In the first quarter of 2022, the number of transactions remained at the same levels, which means that users remained loyal to DIAS services. The interesting thing is that there was a significant increase in the value of transactions, which is attributed to the wave of accuracy. The increase in the value of transactions concerns both the payment of bills and the transfers of funds between individuals and companies.
In particular, according to DIAS data, in the first quarter of the year, 69 million transactions with a total value of 75 billion euros were cleared. It is noted that in the corresponding period in 2021, the value of interbank transactions had risen to 63 billion euros. In recent months, DIAS has contributed together with credit institutions and public bodies to the implementation of important projects aimed at facilitating payment transactions by citizens and businesses.
Payments with RF / QR code
Consumers make payments with code (RF / QR) to companies, organizations and institutions of the public and private sector, without being required to know the IBAN of the beneficiary and using the means of their choice (web banking, mobile banking). The RF payment code is a unique, 25-digit code that allows payment by credit transfer. Alternatively, it can be displayed as QR, so payment can be made by scanning it from the mobile banking of the banks that provide it.
Indicatively, a payment code is used by tax authorities for the payment of taxes (eg road tax), social security agencies, energy companies, telephony companies, insurance companies, pharmaceutical companies, courier companies, car dealerships, private schools, clothing and cosmetics companies, etc. a.
From the end of March, the possibility of electronic payment (e-Payment) using the RF or QR code, which was announced by the Ministry of Digital Government, is available. It is indicative that 77% of the companies served by DIAS (energy bills, traffic fees, telecommunications, etc.) now use this payment model for their receipts.
