The unemployment rate in August this year fell to 8.1%, compared to the revised 9.7% in August 2024, and the revised up to 8.3% in July 2025. The unemployed amounted to 383,788, a decrease of 72.352 by 202.352. 11,542 people compared to July 2025 (2.9%).

In women, unemployment rate stood at 10.6% from 11.8% in August last year and in men at 6.1% from 8%.

According to large groups of ages, in the 15-24 group the unemployment rate increased to 19% from 17.2% in August 2024, while at the age of 25-74 it decreased to 7.5% from 9.3%.

Also, according to ELSTAT’s workforce survey, employees amounted to 4,337,315 people, increasing 79,288 people compared to August 2024 (1.9%) and a decrease of 2,331 people compared to July 2025 (0.1%).

While people under 75 who are not included in the workforce, or “people outside the workforce” (that is, people who do not work or seek work) amounted to 3,025,161 people, a decrease of 35,078 people compared to August 2024 (1.1%) and an increase of 11,556 (0.4%).
