The Minister of National Economy and Finance, Kyriakos Pierrakakis, met this morning in Washington with the Secretary of the Treasury of the United States, Scott Bessent.
During the discussion, the prospects for further strengthening of economic relations between Greece and the United States were examined, with an emphasis on:
- in attracting US investment in high value-added sectors, with an emphasis on technological innovation and energy infrastructure.
- in the strengthening of transatlantic trade relations and the role of Greece as a pillar of stability and development in the wider region,
- as well as cooperation at the international and European level to address contemporary economic challenges.
Mr. Pierrakakis highlighted the significant progress of the Greek economy in recent months, pointing out that reforms, fiscal stability and the digital transition are the main pillars that make our country a reliable and attractive destination for investments. Special mention was made of the importance of energy cooperation, with Greece playing an important role as a regional hub for transportation, storage and interconnection of energy corridors.
Today’s meeting between the two ministers, which was also attended by the commander of AADE, Giorgos Pitsilis, is the second in six months. During it, the relationship of trust and strategic cooperation that has developed between the two countries was confirmed, as well as the mutual commitment to closer coordination in the face of international economic challenges.
