The PF (Federal Police) fulfills eight search and seizure warrants this Wednesday morning (6) to advance an investigation into alleged fraudulent management of former directors BB Consórcio, an arm of Banco do Brasil that operates in the consortium business.
Named Consortium 200, the operation is carried out in São Paulo, Paraná and the Federal District and began with the opening of an investigation to investigate suspicions in two consortium operations worth R$ 100 million each.
The millionaire consortia were approved in the vehicle purchase modality, but, says the PF, they were used for purposes other than those contracted. The suspected irregularities were taken to the PF by Banco do Brasil itself.
According to the PF, these consortium contracts resulted in losses for Banco do Brasil because they were not fully paid.
In addition to the possible fraudulent management, which provides for a prison sentence of 3 to 12 years, the PF also analyzes breaches of tax and financial secrecy of those investigated to find out if the former managers also committed the crime of money laundering with the diverted values.
In a note, Banco do Brasil states that as soon as it identified irregularities, it “communicated the police authorities, who initiated investigations”.
“BB continues to contribute to investigations and has always placed itself at the disposal of the competent authorities”, says the bank.
