During September there was a significant increase in banking deposits of businessesunlike those of households which showed a retreat, according to the official data announced today by Bank of Greece. In more detail, business deposits in Greece increased by 2.744 billion euros in September, compared to an increase of 1.046 billion euros in August. On the other hand, households saw their deposits decrease by 95 million euros, while in the previous month they had strengthened by 1.008 billion euros.

The announcement of the Bank of Greece in detail:

I. Financing the domestic economy

The monthly net flow of total funding was positive by €2,881 million in September 2025, compared to a negative net flow of €23 million in the previous month.

I.1 Funding of the general government

The monthly net flow of funding to general government in September 2025 was positive by €695 million, compared to a negative net flow of €189 million in the previous month. The annual rate of change in general government funding rose to 3.2% from 2.4% in the previous month.

I.2 Financing of the private sector

In September 2025, the annual rate of change in total private sector financing was almost unchanged at 10.7% from 10.6% the previous month. The monthly net flow of total financing to the private sector was positive by €2,186 million, compared to a positive net flow of €166 million in the previous month.

I.2.1 Business financing

The monthly net flow of funding to businesses in September 2025 was positive at €2,020 million, compared to a positive net flow of €151 million in the previous month, while the annual rate of change stood at 15.6% from 15.8% in the previous month. In particular, the annual rate of change in the financing of non-financial enterprises (NFE) stood at 16.1%, unchanged from the previous month. Their monthly net funding flow was positive by 1,850 million euros, compared to a positive net flow of 173 million euros in the previous month. The annual rate of change in the funding of insurance companies and other financial institutions eased to 11.2% from 12.9% in the previous month. Their monthly net funding flow was positive by €170 million, compared to a negative net flow of €22 million the previous month.

I.2.2 Financing of freelancers, farmers and individual businesses

In September 2025, the monthly net flow of funding to freelancers, farmers and sole proprietorships was positive by €34 million, compared to a negative net flow of €16 million in the previous month. The annual rate of change in their funding was -0.8%, down from -0.5% in the previous month.

I.2.3 Financing of private and private non-profit institutions

The monthly net flow of financing to individuals and private non-profit institutions was positive by €133 million in September 2025, compared to a positive net flow of €31 million in the previous month. The annual rate of change in their funding rose to 1.4% from 0.9% the previous month.

II. Deposits of the domestic economy in domestic credit institutions

The monthly net flow of total deposits was positive by 3,058 million euros in September 2025, compared to a positive net flow of 2,328 million euros in the previous month.

II.1 Deposits from the general government

General government deposits increased by 409 million euros in September 2025, compared to an increase of 274 million euros the previous month, and the annual rate of change increased to 32.4% from 27.1% the previous month.

II.2 Deposits from the private sector

Private sector deposits increased by 2,649 million euros in September 2025, compared to an increase of 2,054 million euros in the previous month, while the annual rate of change was almost unchanged at 5.5% from 5.4% in the previous month.

II.2.1 Deposits from businesses

Business deposits increased by 2,744 million euros in September 2025, compared to an increase of 1,046 million euros the previous month, and the annual rate of change increased to 12.2% from 11.2% the previous month. In particular, MXE deposits increased by 2,987 million euros, compared to an increase of 1,082 million euros in the previous month. Deposits of insurance companies and other financial institutions decreased by 244 million euros, compared to a decrease of 37 million euros in the previous month.

II.2.2 Deposits from households and private non-profit institutions

Deposits of households and private non-profit institutions decreased by 95 million euros in September 2025, compared to an increase of 1,008 million euros in the previous month, and the annual rate of change decreased to 3.1% from 3.4% in the previous month.
