The INSS (National Institute of Social Security) begins to pay, next Monday (25), the first installment of the 13th for retirees, pensioners and other insured persons entitled to the amount. The money is released according to the final benefit number, without considering the check digit.

As in 2020 and 2021, the first and second installments of the Christmas bonus are being advanced to the first half of the year. In all, 31.6 million policyholders will receive the money, adding up to R$ 56.7 billion injected into the economy.

The consultation of the exact value of the 13th of the INSS can now be made by the beneficiary through the My INSS app or website. It is still not possible to see the amount provisioned in the bank account, says the institute.

How is the calculation of the 13th of the INSS

The first installment corresponds to exactly half of the benefit amount for those who were already retired in January. In the case of those who retired later, the amount to be paid is proportional to the months of receipt of retirement.

The second installment can be discounted from the Income Tax for those who are obliged to pay. Benefit of up to BRL 1,903.98 per month is exempt from IR.

Retirees aged 65 and over are entitled to an extra tax exemption from the month in which they celebrate their birthday. In this case, only benefits above R$ 3,807.96 will pay income tax.

at the request of Sheet, Ieprev (Institute of Social Security Studies) calculated the value of the first and second installments for those who were already retired in January of this year and aged up to 64 years and from 65 years old. The institute also made simulations for those who obtain retirement in April, in which case the insured receives the proportional amount.

Ieprev’s social security lawyer, Wagner Souza, responsible for the calculations, remembers that the IR discount only occurs in the second installment, but it is on the total amount. The specialist explains who will be entitled to the 13th proportional.

“For a month to be considered in the calculation of the proportionality of the annual allowance, the benefit has to be received for at least 15 days in a given month”, he says.

Not all policyholders receive the Christmas bonus

The INSS currently pays benefits to a total of 36 million policyholders. However, the 13th will be paid this year to 31.6 million beneficiaries. The reason is that not all types of benefits guarantee the payment of the Christmas bonus.

The 13th person is entitled to:

  • Retirement
  • Pension
  • sick pay
  • accident assistance
  • Reclusion allowance

Whoever receives:

  • BPC/Loas (Continued Provision Benefit of the Organic Law of Social Assistance)
  • Lifetime Monthly Income.

When will payments be made?

Policyholders will receive the first installment between April 25th and May 6th. The second installment will be paid from May 25th to June 7th. The bonus is released along with the monthly INSS benefit. Whoever earns the minimum wage gets paid first. Those who have values above the minimum up to the ceiling receive later.
