The onslaught of retail giants against the so-called digital camelódromo should take new steps in the coming weeks.
After raising the concern to bodies such as the Revenue, the Public Ministry and the Ministry of Justice, the idea is now to introduce the subject to end consumer awareness and prepare proposals for candidates for this year’s elections, according to Marcelo Silva, president of the IDV (Instituto for Retail Development). According to him, the solution involves tax reform.
“The pandemic boosted the growth of digital and what we saw was, on the one hand, formal retail paying taxes and registering employees, while other platforms without any control were entering. We want to show the general public, political and economic circles, that we have a problem in the country and one cannot speak of informality as something normal. It is illegal not to pay tax”, says Silva.
The movement led by the IDV attracts other sectors, such as Abrabe (Brazilian Beverage Association), with whom businessmen such as Luiza Trajano (Magalu) and Flavio Rocha (Riachuelo) are meeting next week to talk about the matter.
