Urban mobility giant Uber could gain wings later this year. The company announced at the end of March a pilot project to include planes, trains and buses among the app’s services by the end of 2022, starting with the United Kingdom.
The idea is not to allow the direct request of air travel through the app, but that the tool is integrated with other platforms that sell tickets and rent aircraft, becoming a travel super application. Even car rental and hotel room reservations can be done through the app, according to information from Uber itself.
According to a report by the American TV channel, NBC News, the change is part of a pilot project by the company.
In that country, the company already allows users to rent bicycles, boats, scooters and other similar items through the platform. “We want to become a one-stop shop for all your travel needs,” says Jamie Heywood, head of Uber UK.
“You have been able to book rides, bikes, boat and motorcycle services on the Uber app for several years now, so adding planes, trains and buses is a natural progression,” he said.
Soon, the user will be able to request a car to the airport, travel to Europe on a flight whose ticket was purchased through the same app and, upon arrival, take a train to the destination hotel, all coordinated within the app.
