Food and fuel became even more expensive for Brazilians from March to April, according to data from the IPCA-15 (National Consumer Price Index 15) released this Wednesday (27) by the IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics). ).
The previous inflation indicator rose 1.73% in April. It is the most intense for the month in 27 years.
Among the sub-items that make up the IPCA-15, tomatoes registered the biggest monthly increase: 26.17%. Melon (23.15%), carrot (15.02%) and cabbage (13.37%) followed.
At the beginning of the year, food production was impacted by the adverse weather in Brazil. Heavy rains in the Northeast and Southeast and a drought in the South affected several plantations. Thus, they generated reflections on the supply and prices of food.
The fifth highest inflation, according to the IPCA-15 of April, was registered by diesel oil: 13.11%. The rise came after Petrobras announced, in March, a mega-increase in fuels at refineries.
The state-owned company’s decision was motivated at the time by the surge in oil on the international market, as a result of the war in Ukraine.
According to the IPCA-15 of April, long-life milk (12.21%), soy oil (11.47%), potato (9.86%), broccoli (9.65%) and airline tickets (9 .43%) complete the list of the ten sub-items with the greatest monthly variations.
According to the IPCA-15 methodology, the products and services with the most intense advances do not always represent the main influences on the result.
Proof of this is that the April index was pressured especially by gasoline. Fuel rose 7.51%, generating an impact of 0.48 percentage point on the IPCA-15. The variation of gasoline was the 16th largest among the sub-items.
In the accumulated of 12 months until April, the carrot registers the biggest shot: 195%. Tomato (117.48%), zucchini (86.83%) and ground coffee (65.09%) come next.
