After the noise caused by the steak sandwich without steak at McDonald’s last week, Procon-SP decided, this Monday (2) to notify Burger King to ask for explanations about the Whopper Ribs, a hamburger on the chain’s menu that has a rib scent. .
Among other information, the consumer protection agency requests the full nutritional table of the product and copies of advertising materials. The deadline for response is 72 hours, starting this Tuesday (3).
According to Guilherme Farid, executive director of Procon-SP, the agency has looked with concern at the advertising of food products that highlight a particular ingredient that is not part of the composition of that product or does not belong to the main composition, in this case the hamburger of the sandwiches.
“The consumer is led astray believing that at the time he makes the purchase of the product, he will ingest that ingredient. the rib, when in fact it only consumed its aroma, will be characterized by misleading advertising and the company could be fined up to R$ 11.6 million”, says Farid.
Last week, McDonald’s was questioned by bodies such as the Ministry of Justice, Procons of São Paulo and BrasÃlia and Conar, who asked for explanations after consumer complaints about McPicanha that does not have picanha in the composition.
McDonald’s removed the snacks from digital menus and restaurants across the country, and later announced that the product would return with a new name. In publicity for the relaunch, McDonald’s said it “flipped” on the previous name.
