The increase in the price of energy significantly affects the budgets of households, “gnaws” business turnovers and slows down the growth dynamics, stressed the Minister of Finance, Christos Staikouras, during the specialization of the new measures for the reduction of electricity bills.
He stressed that the government is aware of the increased and accumulated difficulties and the aggravation of the problems, is fully aware of the need of citizens for further support and responds positively and with a realistic plan “to offer solutions”.
First: The electricity subsidy for May and June is significantly strengthened and expanded bravely. Subsidies of existing categories and consumptions of households and businesses are increased and consumptions over 300 kilowatt hours of the main residence and other household properties are subsidized for the first time. Secondly: In June, 60% of the increase is subsidized for all electricity bills charged to consumers and issued from December 21 to May 22. concerns household consumers for charges of their main residence that are not covered by the discounts issued through the electricity bills. The grant will be deposited in the declared IBAN accounts. It covers 90% of households. It can not exceed 600 euros per consumer. The cost is estimated at 280 million euros.
It is noted that the Prime Minister announced yesterday that 60% of all additional charges will be refunded to the bank account of each first home owner or tenant who has suffered, retroactively from December to May, with a maximum limit of this extraordinary compensation of 600 euros.
At the same time for May and June consumers and the state will share any increase beyond 300 KWh in consumption, with the state covering 50% while, in addition, the new discount will apply to non-main residences, and in fact for the total monthly consumption.
The second intervention concerns a special fee of 90% on the additional conjunctural revenues of the power generation companies.
