Electricity measures: Who and how will receive a subsidy – How to calculate its amount

By Chrysostomos Tsoufis

Nine out of ten households will receive at end of June in their bank account retroactive compensation for exorbitant electricity bills who “killed” their budgets in the last 6 months.

THE subsidy concerns the accounts issued by December 1, 2021 until May 31 this year. Attention, it does not matter in which consumption period the bill refers but the date of its issuance. The subsidy also concerns ONLY the main residence.

THE calculation of the subsidy it is very easy, anyone can do it.

For the period already mentioned, we add the amounts of the infamous adjustment clause and subtract from the sum all the discounts we have already received from the state and our provider. The subsidy is 60% of the difference with a maximum of € 600 and a minimum of € 18. The amount that will be deposited in our account is unsecured, tax free and can not be offset against other debts we may have. It will be at our disposal to use it where we want, no one will control where we spend the money.

Suppose a household has a total adjustment clause of € 1300 in the electricity bills from December to May and total discounts from the state and the provider add up to 500. The subsidy it will receive will be 60% of their difference, ie € 800 x60 % = 480 €

In order for a household to receive the money, it must have declared an annual family income of up to € 45,000. Attention, this income criterion is not bypassed, therefore even for couples who file separate tax returns, the income of each member is added up.

A very simple application is required to credit the account through a platform which is expected to open in early June. The interested party will enter with the taxis codes and directly on his screen will appear the main residence and the PPC clock as he has stated them to AADE. If he agrees with the information as presented to him, he confirms it and this is where his obligation ends. The state will then collect from its provider the data for the adjustment clause that weighs on it, the discounts that have been made to it and will calculate the subsidy. If the interested party does not agree with the data, he is given the opportunity to change the first residence or the number on the clock or both.

In other words, it does not matter to whom the house is written, what name the bill says on it, if it is rented or rented or given for free, if it is student housing. IT MATTERS who stays at home and pays the bill. He will also get the money
