Nelson de Sá: Chinese cover celebrates pre-salt production, ‘Brics bearing fruit!’

In Lianhe Zaobao, Singapore’s largest Mandarin-language newspaper, from the same group as the Straits Times, Chinese oil company “Cnooc starts production in giant deep-water pre-salt field”.

And in the extensive statement (image below) of an article in a triumphant tone, in the financial coverage of the Sina portal, also mentioning Cnodc:

“The first phase of the giant field in Brazil, involving two major Chinese oil companies, has been successfully put into production! Energy cooperation under the BRICS mechanism is bearing fruit again!”

Closing the article, “energy is the strategic fulcrum of BRICS cooperation”. Among them, “Russia and Brazil are among the largest oil and gas producers in the world, while China and India are the largest and the third largest importer of oil and gas in the world.”

FERTILIZER TOO

The New York Times publishes “Good news for food, bad news for war: Brazil buys Russian fertilizer”, confirming the arrival in the country of the many ships announced by Jair Bolsonaro. From correspondent Jack Nicas:

“Sanctions to punish Moscow threatened to prevent the crucial commodity from being exported. This was a danger not only to the Brazilian economy, but to the world’s ability to feed itself.”

BURNS SPEAKS

Increasingly at the center of American foreign policy, CIA Director William Burns (reproduction above) recalled for a Financial Times headline that it is China, not Russia, “the biggest long-term geopolitical challenge” for his country. And that “it’s irresponsible, too risky, dangerous to talk too much,” as his colleagues have been doing about US actions against the Russian military — as reported with fanfare by the NYT and NBC.
