Hawaiian Airlines will invest in its next generation of seagliders (a type of glider that flies close to the water at high speed). The aircraft, developed in partnership with Regente Craft, is fully electric and has a capacity for 100 people. The model is known as the Monarch, reported Regent Craft.
With this investment, the Hawaiian airline becomes Regent’s first U.S. design partner for the Monarch, which is expected to enter commercial service in 2028.
“Innovative inter-island transportation has been central to our business since 1929, when we replaced steamships with airplanes,” said Avi Mannis, director of marketing and communications for Hawaiian Airlines.
“We are thrilled to be one of Regent’s first investors and to be involved in the development of their biggest project – a vehicle with great potential for Hawaii,” he said.
Regent is an aerospace and maritime company focused on building all-electric gliders, zero-emissions vehicles that provide port-to-port, over-water transport at a fraction of the cost, noise and emissions of existing regional modes of transport. such as aircraft and ferries.
Mannis added that Hawaiian Airlines looks forward to working with Regent to provide the technology and infrastructure necessary for convenient, comfortable and environmentally sustainable inter-island transportation.
“Seagliders” will be a game-changer for sustainable regional transportation in communities like Hawaii. “Through close partnerships with designers and strategic investors, we are able to fully understand our customers’ needs and deliver zero-emission transportation solutions,” said Billy Thalheimer, CEO of Regent.
