by

The skeleton of a deinonychus, a species of carnivorous dinosaur that inspired the creation of “velociraptor” in the Jurassic Park franchise, sold for $12.4 million this week.

Christie’s, responsible for the auction, estimated the price of the fossil to be between US$ 4 million and US$ 6 million (R$ 20 million and R$ 30 million).

Named “Hector”, the fossil is the most complete of the species found to date and the only one belonging to the private sector, according to the company.

The auction took place this week in New York.
