President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) criticized, this Monday (16), once again, the price policy of Petrobras. He said that the statute is not above the Constitution and signaled changes in the state.
Last week, the president of Petrobras, José Mauro Coelho, carried out the first readjustment of diesel in his administration, displeasing the Chief Executive.
“Everyone has to collaborate, it’s not about earning more money in the crisis. Unfortunately, this is what some sectors do, like Petrobras itself. ‘Oh, it has the statute’. Statute is above the law, it is not above the Constitution. the social end of the company,” Bolsonaro told supporters in the playpen at Palácio da Alvorada.
The president has already mentioned the company’s “social end”, and criticized Petrobras’ pricing policy, which motivated the change in command about a month ago. Coelho is already the third executive since Bolsonaro took office.
He has already classified as “rape” the increase in the price of gasoline. This Monday, he said that it was not possible to make a 30% profit for Petrobras and, without going into detail, indicated that he would intervene.
“We are certainly going to join Petrobras in these matters as well. It is not possible for an oil company to make a profit of 30% while the others, at most, 15%, to meet the interest of I don’t know who,” he said.
“There’s more to happen on the Petrobras issue. You already know what’s happening. I won’t go into details, it’s always doing something to look for an alternative”.
The increase in the average price of diesel by 8.87% at Petrobras refineries. The rise was expected by the market, given the escalation of international prices in recent weeks, but that did not stop Bolsonaro’s irritation.
In the government, it was considered an aggravating factor that the readjustment was announced four days after the disclosure of a profit of R$ 44.5 billion in the first quarter of 2022. The result, released on Thursday (5), was the third best in the company’s history.
Two days after the state-owned company announced the readjustment, the Minister of Mines and Energy, Bento Albuquerque, left the portfolio. The exchange, like Sheet showed, left Coelho weakened against Petrobras.
According to reports, there are two main reasons for the delicate situation: in addition to having lost his political godfather, Coelho aroused the antipathy of President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) after announcing a new adjustment in the price of diesel.
In Coelho’s favor, however, the fact that a new change in command of the state-owned company could bring more wear to Petrobras and the government.
