Gilberto Gil says that the power to change governments lies in the vote: ‘It is necessary to fight’

by

The singer, Gilberto Gil, 79, said that a portion of the government class is on the negative side of human life and that the power to change is in the vote. The statement was made in the center of Roda Viva (TV Cultura) –23 years after his last participation in the program–, which was recorded and broadcast on Monday night (23).

Gil responded to one of the interviewers who asked if the song “Pessoa Nefasta” (1984) was made for a specific politician. The singer said that the song talks about the possibility of the human being to show a dark side that lives in everyone and that in some “hypertrophy”.

“It was a time when the [Paulo] Maluf was one of the great men of political life in Brazil. I was asked if he was for the [ex-governador da Bahia] Antonio Carlos Magalhaes. I say it’s not directed [a ninguém]”, he said.

Gil also stated that a portion of the current government class is on the negative side of human life. “Life gave them a chance to arrive [ao poder] with their militias. Hopefully we’ll be able to get rid of them.”

The singer said that it was already possible to imagine that the current government would destroy the arts, that culture would be undermined and developments abandoned. “We are dismayed by all that is happening, but it is not enough, we must fight, insist”, he emphasized.

Gil said that the people, society must take the responsibility to change this in their hands and one of the great instruments of change is the vote. “We have the ability to remove governments at every election, we have the ability to keep or replace governments.”
