Cornelius Kastoriadis (Istanbul 1922 – Paris 1997) has undoubtedly taken his place among the most important thinkers of Europe, of the second half of the twentieth century. Co-founder, along with Claude Lefort, of the team and the magazine Socialism or barbarism (“Socialism or Barbarism”, 1948-1967) will sharply criticize the Soviet Union, without, however, giving up the revolutionary socialist project. Starting with his book The Imaginary Institution of Society (1975), he will build a huge philosophical work, with the central idea of political and social autonomy. A man of great erudition and one of the few philosophers who knew well the science of his time, he spoke steadily with ancient Greek thought and was inspired by the Athenian democracy.
Kastoriadis’s work, well known in Greece as well, constantly attracts and challenges young people, who have decided to enter the labyrinth of thought. In some of them we chose to give the floor to our event, which takes place on the occasion of the completion of a century since its birth.
