With almost years of career, Ivete Sangalo completes 50 years as one of the most popular singers in the country. To commemorate the date, she performs a great show in her hometown of Juazeiro, Bahia, on May 27, broadcast by Multishow.
Since becoming nationally famous when she became the lead singer of Banda Beijo, in the 1990s, the singer has not left the spotlight and has had her personal, professional life and stories – some very funny – told in newspapers, magazines, websites and television programs.
Discover some facts about the singer.
‘CLAUDIO, MY ASS’
The singer entertained the audience of the program O Que é Isso Porchat? (GNT), in 2019, recounting the hardship she went through when she lost her hair extension at a beach show in Arraial d’Ajuda, Bahia. Late and without makeup, she said she did her makeup and put her hair in a ponytail. “I took my appliqué, gave it a brush and put it on. It was really chic.”
She said that she called her security Cláudio, who set up a long corridor between the fans to reach the stage. But they started to approach her shouting: “Ivete, Ivete”. Suddenly, the singer shook her head and realized that she had lost her hairpiece. “Claudio, my ass,” she yelled because she wasn’t sure the security guard knew what a patch was.
Immediately, the security guard started protecting the singer’s back, while she said “my ass”, without taking his eyes off the hairpiece lying in the sand. He replied to Sangalo; “Made, nobody’s getting your ass.” Nervous, she could only keep yelling at my ass. “I looked at three wads of [cabelo] rolling in the sand, it looked like a mouse.”
‘AHER MUSIC’
The singer recalled her chance meeting with singer Cher in the front row of a Chanel show, Paris, France. She said she was sitting next to Shakira Caine, wife of English actor Michael Caine, and there was another empty chair reserved for another celebrity.
Sangalo said he was talking to Shakira when he saw a circle full of photographers. “Suddenly a flash came on and who gets out of the circle? Cher! When I saw Cher, I thought: ‘My international career is consolidated'”, he told the story with a laugh to the audience of the program O Que é Isso Porchat? (GNT).
Cher and Shakira started talking as the photographers recorded their encounter. So as not to look like she was out of place, Sangalo started making faces and mouths as if she’d known the two of them for a long time.
The singer said that she tried to strike up a conversation with Cher by making a joke, which the pop diva did not understand. “In Bahia, I make a song in his honor. It’s called ‘Axer’ músic”, she said. The pop diva responded, “Awesome.”
“When I arrived in Bahia, I was the representative of an international career because of Cher,” Sangalo said, laughing.
ALL FOR THE GUI GUI DOLL
At age 11, singer Ivete Sangalo participated in the Brazilian version of the show Clube do Mickey, presented by Mara Maravilha, on TV Itapoan, in 1983. She told, in an interview with Programa da Sabrina (Record), in 2014, that she did the dubbing of a song in English by singer Nikka Costa.
Sangalo said he only went to the show because the prize was a Gui Gui doll, which his father could not afford. On the stage of Sabrina’s Program, she was happy to win the doll and meet Mara Maravilha again.
ROMANCE WITH HUCK
Ivete Sangalo dated presenter Luciano Huck for six months, after the end of his relationship with presenter Eliana under suspicion of betrayal. At the time, the couple was spotted by paparazzi on beach dates and dinners.
In an interview with journalist Caio Braz’s YouTube channel three years ago, the singer said that her relationship with Huck was very brief – they were together from 1999 to 2000 –, but she still maintains friendship with her ex.
According to Sangalo, Huck was very important to his career because he is an entrepreneur. “Every conversation I have with Luciano, he brings a business lucidity. It’s very cool”, said the singer.
COMMISSIONER FOR A DAY
Wearing a flight attendant’s uniform, the singer had fun welcoming passengers on a Tam flight in Salvador, ten years ago. Sangalo delivered chocolates to those who entered the aircraft and even took pictures with them.
She even spoke to passengers on the in-flight microphone that the company was celebrating 35 years of Tam and wished them a good trip. Before leaving the aircraft, the artist asked passengers to buy her disc, DVD and follow her on Twitter. “Have a good flight, a kiss and axé. Bye”, said Sangalo.
FAMILY SARAUS
In 2014, the singer revealed to Jô Soares during her participation in her Globo show that her good childhood memories are related to music, because the family used to have soirees at home.
She said the family was always “making a tune” before meals with dad playing guitar and mom cooking and singing with their six children.
According to the artist, the father Alsus Almeida de Sangalo used to call his friends to see his children sing. At this time, she was very fond of singing songs by singer Clara Nunes.
