Julian Bedel: A special … perfumer – He has created over 100 perfumes

by

Patagonia is the core of the Milanese perfumery Fueguia 1833 and the perfumer Julian Bedel, from the creation of the brand in 2010 until today, uses only physical elements. Due to the rarity of the ingredients, only 400 vials are made per batch and row· Today there are over 100 perfumes, grouped in 11 collections: Alquimia, Antropologa, Aquilaria, Armonas, Destinos, Fábula Fauna, Linneo, Literatura, Muskara, Personajes and the new one, under the name El Mundo de los Ouds. Recently, Julian Bedel gave an interview to Designboom.

«“There is no sense that activates as many parts of the brain – and therefore generates as many reactions accordingly – as the sense of smell,” Bedel said. “When an ingredient affects you, you start producing hormones. It can excite or relax you, and at the same time, it will give you a change in your perception of time. It also activates memory, leaving a finger on your story. When I realized the power of this tool, I knew immediately that I wanted to work with it. This was added to the fact that my family is also very attached to farming, so we had some spectacular land acquisitions in the middle of the Argentine Mesopotamia where my brothers and I spent the summers helping with the crops and working in the fields.“, He confesses.

Bedel himself oversees research into aromatic herbs and herbs found around the world. For this reason, in 2016 he launched Fueguia Botany, a plantation of about 200 acres in Uruguay, which grows more than 100 aromatic herbs from South America. Each fragrance of Fueguia 1833 is accompanied by its “shelter”, a handmade wooden box by apprentice carpenters in Patagonia or crafted in a carpentry shop in the perfumery factory in Milan.

He shares with us that Fueguia 1833 is a tribute to his ancestors, who were naturalists and writers: “Louis Bedel, Henry D’Orbigny, Maurice Bedel, René Bedel and Filiberto Oliveira de Cézar: they wandered alone in a world and left a unique imprint on their distinct, curious minds. Fueguia 1833 was born from the connection of Europe and South America, whose origins are many centuries back. Continuing our tradition, we locate native (plant) species to imagine and create in Buenos Aires and Milan. Creating fragrances that reflect the exotic variety of South American nature treasures. “

If one asks Julian Bedel to describe his perfumery, he identifies Fueguia 1833 as a suggestion for spirits-planets, sensitive to the call to remembrance.
