This year marks the 15th anniversary of the London Greek Film Festival, with the award ceremony taking place last week in an event hall at the Greek Embassy in the British capital, with selected guests.
The festival, which has now become an institution as an international meeting point for Greek film, is a creation of the director and acting professor Christos Prosylis, who holds the position of artistic director.
The purpose of the festival is to highlight of modern Greek film in all its versions in an artistic metropolis like London, as well as the networking of creators.
The Greek Ambassador to the United Kingdom Ioannis Raptakis, during his greeting at the award ceremony, stressed the importance and contribution of the festival to the promotion of Greek culture, emphasizing that the embassy in the British capital will continue to support the project in the future.
Mr. Prosylis made a brief review of the history of the festival, but also a special mention in collaboration with the Epidaurus International Film Festival, which debuts this September.
Videotaped messages of support for the Greek Film Festival in London were sent by Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs Andreas Katsaniotis and Secretary General of Hellenes Abroad and Public Diplomacy Ioannis Chrysoulakis.
Mr. Katsaniotis stressed the contribution of Greek filmmakers as ambassadors of Greek culture, while emphasizing its value and support for the festival, which “has managed to become a reference point of contemporary Greek film production.”
For his part, Mr. Chrysoulakis emphasized the mobilization of the Greek community through the Film Festival, emphasizing that this is a privileged field of public diplomacy in our country.
This was followed by the awarding of prizes to the winners of the approximately 30 sub-categories of the festival.
During the event, the video entitled ‘Greece, a natural studio’ was shown by the National Center for Audiovisual Media (EKOME), which supports and promotes film productions in Greece.
