Prince William, 40, paid tribute to his mother, Princess Diana, in a letter on Friday (1st) – the day she would have turned 61. The text was made for the finalists of the Diana Award, which honors people who dedicate themselves to humanitarian work and social actions.

“Congratulations on receiving the Diana Award today! You are part of an inspiring generation of young people who are changing the world through your actions, and I greatly admire your efforts,” he began in the letter. “I greatly admire your efforts. Your stories are remarkable.”

He then quoted the princess as saying the award finalists are “the embodiment of my mother’s legacy”. “I know she would be so proud of all of you. I believe there is no better way to celebrate her life and work than to recognize amazing people who put so much time and effort into helping those around them.” .

In 2021, the year she would have turned 60 if she were alive, Prince William met with his brother Prince Harry to unveil a statue in honor of the princess. The monument is located in the Suken Garden of Kensington Palace.

Recently, the Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton, 40, also paid tribute to her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana. On the first day of Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations, she wore a white dress and hat that are a nod to the outfit Diana wore in 1991 to watch a parade of servicemen who served in the Gulf War.
