More specifically, Spyros Bibilas wrote: “My sweet Annula, you too flew to the sky! Deep sadness in the artistic field from the new loss of our great actress and friend ANNA POLYTIMOU, a unique performer of classical roles, the absolute rhapsode of the Homeric epics who recited them from memory, a great teacher of actors, wife of the also great teacher Vikos Papakonstantinou and mother of Dimitris Papakonstantinou, one of the last surviving classmates of Alikis Vougiouklakis, my sweet Anna who, at the beginning of my career, we were fellow travelers and co-founders of the unforgettable ASKITIKOS THEATER with its great performances and participation in international festivals. The always young ANNA left us for the great journey , condolences to the family and from all of us good luck».
Who was Anna Polytimou?
She made her debut in the theater at the age of 13 at the suggestion of Iakovos Campanellis, who was a friend of her father. Later, he studied acting at the Drama School of the National Theater alongside important teachers, such as Pelos Katselis, Dimitris Rontiris and Spyros Mellas. He graduated in 1955.
He collaborated with leading actors and directors of the independent theater, such as Kostas Moussouris, Dimitris Horn, Elli Lambeti, Kostis Michaelidis, etc. He collaborated with many DIPETHE and municipal theaters and worked on the radio. For nine years he collaborated with the National Youth Foundation as a rhapsode, reciting Homer’s rhapsodies from his chest. Together with her actor and theater teacher husband, Nikos Papakonstantinou, they founded the “Settas Theater” in Evia, which is a miniature of Epidaurus. Since 1994, together with her son, Dimitris Papakonstantinou, and Matina Papageorgiou, they created the troupe “Castalia” which presents ancient drama and festival events.
