Brad Pitt says he suffers from a rare disorder, but no one believes him

by

It was Brad Pitt himself who said: some of his friends were already quite upset to be solemnly ignored when meeting him at events. What they didn’t know is that the actor didn’t act like that out of arrogance or (who ever?) out of a certain laziness to make a social. Brad actually suffers from a disorder called prosopagnosia.

He was not formally diagnosed with the disease – whose main symptom is the inability to recognize faces – but in an interview with “GQ” in August, he said he was sure he had it. To the magazine, the American actor said he is embarrassed when he is approached by someone who hopes to be identified. And he just can’t. Worse: “Nobody believes I have this,” he blurted out.

“A lot of people hate me because they think I’m being disrespectful,” he told Esquire in 2013 when he first spoke about the disorder. Brad, 58, also said that at times he has trouble recognizing even his relatives.

Prosopagnosia is commonly known as “face blindness” and affects about 2.5% of the world’s population to varying degrees. Pitt’s would be among the lowest and he doesn’t rule out the idea of auditioning. Meanwhile, he avoids situations that might make him uncomfortable. His desire now is to meet someone who also suffers from the disease, even to try to understand it better.
