“We apologize to the public for the disruption and inconvenience caused by this development, for which the National Theater is not responsible, which tried until the last moment to find a solution” the National Theater announcement states
The premiere at the Ancient Theater of Epidaurus of Bost’s Medea, directed by Yiannis Kalabrianos, is postponed until tomorrow, Saturday 9 July, due to a strike by the National Theater Employees’ Union and the Greek Actors’ Union from 20.00 to 24.00.
The announcement issued by the National Theater reads:
“Her premiere Bost’s Medea directed by Yiannis Kalavrianou from the National Theater will not take place today at the Ancient Theater of Epidaurus due to a work stoppage announced by the National Theater Workers’ Union and the Greek Actors’ Union from 20.00 to 24.00, regarding the adjustment of the daily compensation and overnight expenses for the off-site work.
From the first moment, the National Theater supported the workers’ request for an increase in the amounts of off-site compensation, having the support of both the entire Board of Directors and the Artistic Director, Yiannis Moschos.
The leadership of the Ministry of Culture and Sports responded positively in a short period of time, committing explicitly – and publicly – to the satisfaction of the request, even ensuring retroactive effect from July 1st.
Despite all this, the Union of Employees of the National Theater and the Union of Greek Actors insisted until the last moment on work stoppages on the day of the premiere Medeaalthough the request has already been satisfied.
We apologize to the public for the disruption and inconvenience caused by this development, for which the National Theater is not responsible, which tried until the last minute to find a solution.
