Real craftsmen create small, faithful replicas of warships, down to the smallest detail

The RES-MPE was found in the workshop where real masters create small, faithful ones replicas of warships, down to the smallest detail. A “carnage”, that anyone who visits is impressed.
Masters, a group of Navy retirees and friends of the sea that designs and builds model ships. A team of modellers who make handmade works of art with passion.
As the president of the Maritime Museum of Crete states to APE-MPE, Captain EA Manolis Petrakis“we use special materials to create the models. We manage to capture 99.9% fidelity ships on a large scale. It is a difficult process that takes time. We start with the plans which we study with great care. Then we decide on the model we want to build. We gather information and slowly the “construction” begins. We pay great attention to detail».
They have been built in the shipyard of the Maritime Museum of Crete more than 20 model shipswhile in the Museum there are also some that Stelios Falieros, former director of the Museum, member of the group of modellers-volunteers and the initiator of the idea to operate this special laboratory at the Maritime Museum, had built in his home.
In the last period of time and after the suffering with the pandemic, in the workshop – carnage were manufactured “Queen Olga”a historic World War II ship, the Pegasus missile boat and the torpedo boat 11, a 1911 ship.

Participation in an international exhibition
The Maritime Museum of Crete is preparing to participate in the world exhibition of naval modeling that will take place September 15-18 at the Hamburg Maritime Museum.
Two models will be exhibited there, the torpedo boat 11 that was recently built in the Museum and the model of the Minoan ship.
At the same time, a brochure will be published in Greek and English. At the Hamburg fair 40 countries will participate with 60 exhibitors.
