The renovated Archaeological Museum of Halkidiki in Polygyros were launched today by the Minister of Culture Lina Mendoni and the governor of Central Macedonia Apostolos Tzizikostas.
The Museum which acquired a new modern and great exhibition, with funding from European resources of the Central Macedonia Region, is now one of the most important museums of the network of Macedonia and Northern Greece and one of the cultural projects of major importance for Central Macedonia.
“The European Union wisely gave the Regions the ability to manage significant resources in areas such as culture, because it wanted local communities to have a say in the selection of interventions and projects and in areas that are the exclusive competence of the state, such as culture. Thus, each Regional Governor and each Minister sit at the same table and consider the needs of each sector and which are expressed through the Ministry, with the wishes, priorities and needs of local societies at the level of modern culture, but also of the cultural stock. This results in a series of interventions that satisfy everyone. The priorities in matters of protection, promotion, maintenance, preservation of the cultural stock, but also the needs for creation and expression, for the production of modern culture”, Ms. Mendoni emphasized, among other things.
For his part, the governor of Central Macedonia, Apostolos Tzitzikostas, pointed out that: “The Region of Central Macedonia financed the expansion of the Archaeological Museum of Halkidiki, increasing the total exhibition space to a total of 582 sq.m. with periodical exhibition room, educational program room and maintenance workshop spaces. We also used European resources for the creation of the modern exhibition, with the completion of which, we deliver to our fellow citizens and visitors an exhibition that highlights and projects the history and excavations in Halkidiki in an integrated way, enriching the timeless axis of cultural routes of Central Macedonia, and at the same time makes the Archaeological Museum of Halkidiki a point of reference not only for Halkidiki, but also for the wider network of Museums of Macedonia and northern Greece. The exhibition consists of the majority of the findings of the old exhibition, as well as new findings from recent excavations, which complete the presentation of the cultural physiognomy of Halkidiki. I want to express my deep gratitude for the great Lambropoulos Collection, which consists of more than 1,000 objects, among them important works of art, which depict in relief aspects of the life of the ancient inhabitants of Halkidiki, revealing their high standard of living, ideologies, customs”.
The regional governor even announced the resources that will be allocated to the strengthening of culture in Central Macedonia from the new NSRF: “We have already secured and will use more than 35 million euros in the new NSRF 2021-2027, both for new projects to protect and highlight the of our historical and cultural monuments, as well as for the substantial support of the important institutions of our modern culture, such as the International Book Fair, the Thessaloniki Film and Documentary festivals and many more institutions, which make Central Macedonia even more outgoing, even more dynamic” The inauguration was also attended by the deputy governor of Halkidiki Yiannis Giorgos and the regional councilors of Halkidiki Katerina Zografou and Dimitris Tziritis.
