Its permanent residents are… peacocks. Off-season you will find peacocks even at the island’s only beach bar, ready to serve you, as you will see in the video.

We refer to Aegina Monasterylocated very close to the village of Perdika in Aegina, from where a boat departs to visit this little paradise.

A few facts about the island:

The Monastery is an island in the Argosaronic Sea. It is located in the north of the Saronic Gulf, southwest of Aegina, at a distance of less than 500m. from the cape of Perdika and 1800m from the port of Perdika. It is covered with pine trees, with an organized sandy beach and many other places for swimming. In the summer it has a frequent daily connection with the port of Aegina by boat (6 km) and a very frequent connection with the tourist resort of Perdika.
The island is the property of the Holy Monastery of Chrysoleontissa of Aegina and for this reason it has been called a Monastery. The peculiarity of this island is that it is not inhabited, but is a refuge for wild animals.

On the island there are, for example: deer, wild goats, kri-kri, peacocks and squirrels, many of which are friendly – domesticated and approach visitors. The island on the western side is covered with pine trees and the beach, which is approached by boat from Perdika, is organized with sunbeds and a canteen. The eastern side of the island, i.e. the side seen from Aegina, is rocky. The island has interesting hiking / climbing. The peaks of the island are rocky and have a panoramic view of Aegina – Perdika, the peninsula of Methana and the island of Agistrio.

In the past, the island was used for tourism with the creation of camping infrastructure. Today on the islet the visitor will notice ruins of these tourist infrastructures.
