Donald and Ivana Trump’s mansion was a property in Greenwich, Connecticut. In 1982, five years after the start of their marriage, the future president, then 35, and his now ex-wife Ivana bought the estate for $4 million, writes the New York Post.
Consisting of a main house and guest house, the mansion consists of eight bedrooms and 13 bathrooms and sits on a 5.8-acre peninsula.
The waterfront estate has been up for sale for the past three years, initially for a whopping $45 million. It last went on the market for $32 million, but after failing to find a buyer, it was withdrawn last April. Modern renovations are expected to take place before it is listed again.
At the time the couple had moved into the house, the Ivana he was simultaneously working on remodeling the Plaza Hotel in Manhattan, which Donald had purchased in the early 1980s, according to Top Ten Real Estate Deals. In the midst of their contentious divorce in the early 1990s, Ivana acquired the property and later sold the house for $15 million in 1998.
The new owners made some new additions to the grounds, including toning down the overly opulent atmosphere, adding tennis courts, an indoor pool and guest apartments.
Other features of the home include a three-story rotunda foyer with grand staircase and several formal living rooms.
Built in 1939 for Robert Hillas, the former president of the Super Heater Company in New York, it overlooks Long Island Sound.
During their 15-year marriage, the two were considered the ultimate couple of the 1980s. While Donald was building his Manhattan empire, his wife worked alongside him, undertaking interior designs on some of his most iconic buildings .
On July 14, Ivana died at her old home on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, aged 73. She was found at the bottom of a staircase with blunt force trauma to her torso, the New York City Medical Examiner’s Office said.
