Trizonia is the largest island of the Corinthian Gulf with an area of 2.5 Km2 and the only inhabited one. They belong to the prefecture of Fokida and fall under the Municipality of Dorida
Fresh air, greenery, taverns by the sea, port and many places to “explore”. Without exhaust gas, you can comfortably take your ride. You leave the car across the street and cross with a small boat. To stay and rest there are hotels and rooms for rent with sea view.
Where is it; How is it called;
Trizonia is the largest island of the Corinthian Gulf with an area of 2.5 Km2 and the only inhabited one. They belong to the prefecture of Fokida and fall under the Municipality of Dorida.
There are 3-4 versions of where Trizoni got its name. But we prefer the more romantic explanation, that the Lilliputian islands of Phocis, opposite Aegio, were so named because of the many crickets and their melodious song, during the summer nights.
In Trizonia, its traditional local color and natural beauty have been preserved, while the movement of wheeled vehicles (cars – motorbikes) is prohibited. Trizonia has three beaches with clear blue waters. The largest, with its reddish sandy beach, is located in Pounta, 2 km southeast of the port.
Two more small beaches called Aspra Chalkia and Kapsales are located on the south and west side respectively of the island, facing the Peloponnese.
The island’s vegetation includes olives, almonds, vines, prickly pears, cypress trees, dense cypresses, holly trees and eucalyptus trees. Trizonia can be reached daily by regular boat service from the village of Chania.
You can choose one of the sheltered beaches of the bay for your swim or your evening walk.
To go to Trizonia, one can travel from Rio-Antirrio, Nafpaktos or moving from the other side, from the Athens-Lamia highway, Livadeia, Arachova, Delphi, Itea, Galaxidi. In both cases you have to reach Chania, 35 kilometers from Nafpaktos.
Half an hour after leaving Nafpaktos behind and entering Fokida, we see three green dots of green in the turquoise sea. Trizonia, with an area of only 2.4 square kilometers, is the largest in the Corinthian island complex, together with the deserted Ai-Giannis, Prasoudi and Planemi.
