Elon Musk, as the “Guardian” newspaper writes, responded with a lawsuit on Twitter, escalating his legal dispute with the company, over his decision to withdraw from the $44 billion acquisition.
The 164-page lawsuit was filed Friday, hours after Judge Kathleen McCormick of Delaware signed a ruling setting a trial date that will determine whether Musk can back out of the deal.
According to the decision, the trial will begin on October 17 and last five days.
At the same time, yesterday a shareholder of Twitter filed a lawsuit against Musk, asking a court to complete the agreement with the billionaire and to award compensation for the losses caused.
The suit argues that the world’s richest man owes a duty to shareholders because he owns 9.6% of the company and because the buyout agreement gives him the right to veto many of Twitter’s decisions. The lawsuit was filed by Luigi Crispo, who owns 5,500 shares of the company.
On Friday, Twitter shares closed at $41.61, the highest level since Musk pulled out of the deal.
