“Where documentary meets History and Culture” (August 21-28, 2022)
Distinguished representatives of the Arts and Letters (directors, producers, musicians, writers, performers, journalists, etc.) will honor with their presence for another year the Kastellorizo International Documentary Festival “Across the border”.
In more detail, with his presence he will honor the International Documentary Festival of Kastellorizou Jean Christoph Caron, head of the documentary department of the Phoenix Channel/ZDF (Distinguished Media), Uri Cohen, assistant professor of Hebrew and Italian Literature and head of the Porter Institute for Poetics and Semiotics (Distinguished Academic Institution) and Matthew Fratzeskakis, artistic director of the Chania Film Festival (Honored Festival).
The unspoiled island will also feature contributors from the global film industry, as members of this year’s judging panels. Among others, Peter Arens (head of ZDF’s “History and Science”), Phaedra Vokali (director of the Film Academy), Marco Gastine (director and producer), Danae Elon (director/cinematographer), Claudia Schreiner (head of the study department of the Documentary Campus program) and Vassilis Kehagias (director and president of the Panhellenic Union of Film Critics) will attend the screenings of the competition section thus contributing decisively to the successful completion of the Festival.
The 7th “Beyond the Borders”, will also host important names from the field of film direction whose films will be screened on its three different stages: indicatively, Stacey Tenenbaum (Scrap), Dimitris Kalfakis (Metallou Mnimi), Nikos Theodosiou (The Greeks of Hollywood), Thanasis Netas (The narration of Antigone & Phos Hilaron), Eva Stefani (Athens) will discuss their films with experts and the general public.
The opening ceremony will be covered for the first time in a livestreaming broadcast by the editor-in-chief of APE-MBE, Yannis Georgiou, while journalists from ERT, Mega Channel, Flix, Vice Greece, Cineuropa, and Melodia fm, among others, will cover the organization of the 7th Kastellorizo International Documentary Festival.
The coordination of the flow has been undertaken by the renowned journalist Evanna Venardou, while the editing of the three book presentations as well as the editing of the catalog is done by the excellent author Pavlos Methenitis.
Special mention must be made for all their help and cultural “alliance” alongside “Beyond the Borders” at the National Center for Audiovisual Media and Communication (EKOME) and Irini – Christina Andriopoulou and Giorgos Charonitis, in the program “Creative Europe – Media Desk” and Anna Kassimati, at the Film Department of the University of Athens and its president, Eleftheria Thanoulis, at the Hellenic Parliament Foundation, as well as at the Parliament Channel.
For another year, the Festival will be honored with the presence of high-ranking executives and government officials, while for the 7th year in a row the Prime Minister will be represented during the Opening Ceremony. The Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew will be represented by His Eminence Chrysostomos, the Metropolitan of Symi, Tilos, Chalkis and Kastellorizo, who will celebrate the opening of the photographic exhibition “Attic land welcomes the refugees of ΄22”. Musically, the Festival will be punctuated by opening and closing concerts as well as interludes between screenings. Among others, well-known names and musical ensembles will travel the audience of the 7th “Beyond the Borders”, such as the State Orchestra of Athens, DUETTO 16, the great performer Iro Saia with her musicians, as well as the musical ensemble “Argonautes” with with Vassilis Gisdakis.
Finally, representatives from the embassies of the USA, Australia, the Czech Republic, South Africa, as well as leading institutions (NELSON MANDELA Foundation) are expected to arrive at the “edge of the Aegean” in the last week of August to participate in this unique cinematic celebration.
The Festival is under the auspices of S.A. of the President of the Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou. The organization belongs to the Hellenic Foundation for Historical Studies (IDISME), in collaboration with Ecrans des Mondes (Paris), the South Aegean Region and has the support and/or sponsorship of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs / General Secretariat of Hellenism Abroad and Public Diplomacy, of the Ministry of National of Defense, the Ministry of Culture and Sports, the Ministry of the Interior, the Hellenic Parliament, the Municipality of Megistis, the Embassy of Australia in Athens, the Embassy of the USA in Athens, the Embassy of Spain in Athens, the Czech Center of Athens, the National Center Audiovisual Media and Communication (EKOME), the Hellenic Film Center and the Hellenic Radio and Television (ERT).
