Movie studio France’s Why Not Productions has revealed a first photo of Johnny Depp in the role King Louis XI in a period drama directed by Maiwen Le Besco.
Filming began on July 26 and will last 11 weeks, in locations such as Versailles and other mansions in the Paris area as well as in studios.
The ambitious period drama is based on the life of the legend Madame de Barry, of Louis XV’s last royal mistress at the Court of Versailles, after the equally legendary Madame de Pompadour.

The production marks Depp’s first feature film role in three years and follows his victory in his high-profile defamation lawsuit against ex-wife Amber Heard.
