Who was Tsimaras Xanatos?
Tsimaras Xanatos was born, grew up and lives in Athens. He studied Film Directing, Theater and Art History. He initially worked as an actor in theatre, television, film and radio. Since the mid-1990s he retired to return in 2013 on stage supporting the modern Greek theater work and in special collaborations in repertory works.
As a playwright, he appeared in 2004 with the text “Exodus” in the play “Odyssey of a Dream” (D. Dimitriadis, A. Dimos, M. Politopoulou, E. Pega et al. / Univercity Press Editions) which was staged at KTHBE and with the “Never Together” in 2009 (based on Fatih Akin’s film Gegen die Wand/Head On) directed by Chrysas Kapsoulis/Dame Blance.
His play “Pending” was presented at the National Theater as part of the 2013 Readings/Recitation under the editorship of Sissys Papathanasiou and in London by Anastasia Revi’s Theater Lab Company in a translation by Elsis Sakellaridou under the title Suspense (Herodotus Publications 2014), and as full performance at ANGELON VIMA at the 21st Century Greek Work Festival under the artistic direction of Leia Vitalis and directed by Vassilis Noula/Nova Melancholia.
In December 2013, in contact with HIV-positive prisoners and users of Korydallos prisons and the NGO TECHNODROMO, the work of “K.” was presented. which was written to be performed by the prisoners themselves in the prison area. At the 2014 Readings at the KAROLOS KUN ARTS THEATER, his play “Miss Misery” was presented, directed by Aspas Tomoulis.
In 2015, “Miss Misfortune” is published in the form of a short story by Sokolis Publications, and “K.” is presented. directed by Chrysas Kapsoulis with 20 actors/performers at the House of Letters and Arts as part of the two-day Theater and Prison.
In 2017, for the Municipal Theater of Piraeus, his play “Kostas Nouros: Stranger Twice” was performed, a musical biography performed in authentic taverns of Piraeus in a collaboration with Anthi Gouroundi/Libro Coro and Chrysa Kapsoulis, and at the Analogue of Hellenic Language 2018 of the ITHP his project “How many animals can fit a man”.
“Pending” is staged again in 2018, by a group of young actors directed by Vangelis Vogiatzis, at the Mikri Argo Theatre.
In 2018, the play “Miss Misfortune” directed by Chrysas Kapsoulis is staged at the Fournos theater as a full performance, and is honored with the “Karolos Koun” 2018 Greek Playwriting Award, and is included under the title “Signorina Infelicita” in the Anthology of Contemporary Greek Playwrights volume presented at the Naples Theater Festival 2019, while at the same time participating in the Naples Festival with the text “ID : Urchin/Riccio del mare” translated by Gina Karvounakis for the performance “629: Uomini in Gabbia” directed by Mario Gelardi in collaboration with contemporary Italian and Spanish playwrights.
In September 2021, the poetry collection “Agnostos The violence of life” (Poems 2010-2021) will be published by Kappa Publishing.
