‘I was sure I was going to die’, says Luiza Tomé about depression

by

One of the muses of the 1990s, Luiza Tomé faced a very difficult period in her life. The actress says she was diagnosed with depression shortly after the birth of her firstborn, model Bruno Facchini, who is now 23 years old. She says she doesn’t really know what happened to develop the disease and remembers how her struggle was. “I was sure I was going to die, I just wanted to know what it would be like.”

Luiza, 61, also reveals that she was locked up at home. “It took me a year to be able to go out on the street again. Today I understand who takes their life when they are depressed”, admits the actress. “There was a day that hurt so much, I looked at my husband [empresário Adriano Facchini] and I said: ‘If it’s to continue like this, I don’t want it anymore’. I even told him that, out of so much pain”, she recalls.

The actress also admits that fame got in the way of the diagnosis a little, as she herself took time to seek medical help due to prejudice. She says that no one believed she was depressed. “Everyone used to tell me: ‘Hired actress, beautiful son and husband. It’s freshness’. So, until they gave me a correct diagnosis, I kept falling, falling”, she explains to Daniela Albuquerque on RedeTV’s Sensational program!.

Overcoming the disease happened through therapies, medicines and medical consultations. In fact, the numerous visits to depression specialists’ offices aroused the authorities’ suspicions. “I was called by the IRS because I went to seven or eight doctors a day to find out what I was going to die from”, admits Luiza, laughing.

Even with the depression under control, the actress is not careless. “To this day I keep an eye on it, because I’m too afraid to go back there,” she declares.
