Gildina, younger sister of singer Gilberto Gil, dies

Gildina Gil Moreira Santiago, sister of singer-songwriter Gilberto Gil, died at the age of 79, this Sunday (11). The death was announced this Sunday (11) on the social networks of the singer and his wife, Flora Gil, who shared photos of Dina, as she was affectionately called by family members.

Flora posted on Instagram that Sunday dawned very sad with the death of her sister-in-law. “Dina Gil, the boys’ dentist, the delicious laugh, the aunt of so many, Gil’s only sister, the second daughter of Dona Claudina and Dr. José Gil”, wrote the musician’s wife.

Gil’s team published on his Instagram profile a text saying that the two brothers lived many stories together, such as the one that involves the artist’s first guitar. “More interested in music than his sister, Beto [como Gil era chamado pela família] ‘kidnapped’ the instrument she had won and thus began to strum her first chords. Stories that will be immortalized in the memory of the whole family.”

Flora explained on the social network that her sister-in-law was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s many years ago and the two could no longer talk about life’s dreams. She recalled that shortly after her diagnosis she traveled with Dina to India and took her on a tour of Gil’s Europe.

“In the last summers it was always possible to stop by her house with Gil and some grandchildren. Flor and Bento loved to visit Aunt Dina”, wrote Flora. “Rest in peace we try to stay firm and strong and we will continue to love you.”
