From Bruna Marquezine to Camila Pitanga: See the artists at the Viola Davis film launch

by

American actress Viola Davis, 57, one of the most powerful voices in the world against racism and discrimination, attended the launch of the film, “A Mulher Rei”, on Monday night (19) at Copacabana Palace.

From Bruna Marquezine through Camila Pitanga, Bruno Gagliasso and Giovanna Ewbank, Leticia Spiller, Leandra Leal to the couple Taís Araújo and Lázaro Ramos, Brazilian artists surrendered to Viola’s charisma and, of course, to the actress’ talent.

“I saw the movie last Friday. It’s a Hollywood production and with all the ingredients of a Hollywood movie. But it’s also a long, well thought out film with a lot of responsibility in the reflections, in the social issues. It’s strong and she’s amazing on stage. ‘, acknowledged Taís Araújo.

“It’s another wonderful performance by a woman who is a reference for any actor in the world”, highlighted Bruno Gagliasso.

Viola arrived in Rio on Saturday (17) and the next day had a day full of commitments. She was in Cidade do Samba, in the port area of Rio, and visited several samba school barracks. Estação Primeira de Mangueira even prepared a special reception with musicians, master of ceremonies, flag bearers and dancers.

Always accompanied by her husband, Julius Tennon, 68, she also visited the main port of entry for enslaved Africans in Brazil and the Americas, Cais do Valongo. The site is a point of fundamental historical and cultural importance in Rio, which in 2017 became part of the UNESCO World Heritage List. More than a million Africans passed through there in about 40 years.

In the evening, she met with Brazilian artists at the home of the actors Taís Araújo, 43, and Lázaro Ramos, 43. The hostess defined the meeting as a “beautiful and more than special night”.

In “The King Woman”, Viola plays Nanisca, the leader of an army of female warriors. The direction is by Gina Prince-Bythewood (from “The Old Guard” with Charlize Theron), and the soundtrack includes “My Power” by Beyoncé.
