The aim of the event was to help entrepreneurs in the creative sector, who are affected by the war in Ukraine
Six designers from Ukraine presented their collections at the Kyiv Art & Fashion Days event hosted at the Mastercard Tech Hub on Manhattan’s Fifth Avenue.
The aim of the event organized as part of New York Fashion Week was to help entrepreneurs in the creative sector affected by the war in Ukraine.
The designers who participated in the special event were Elena Burenina, Bobkova, Frolov, Litkovskaya, Kovalska and Gudu.
The event in addition to presenting the collections included discussion of the current crisis in Ukraine and efforts to support economic empowerment and trade by small businesses amid the conflict.
Sofia Tskonia organized the Kyiv Art and Fashion Days as a supporting program to introduce Ukrainian fashion designers and artists to an international audience in the Ukrainian capital.
Fashion designer and director of Fashion Design programs at Parsons School in New York, Keenan Dufty was one of the participants in the 2021 program. Following the Russian invasion and subsequent war in Ukraine, as well as the displacement of the country’s citizens, including designers and the artists he met last summer, Dufty contacted Tskonia to ask about everyone’s safety and offered to move the event to New York.
Dufty was able to secure the safe arrival of many designers attending the event, as well as hosting two US-based brands.
“Seeing all the devastation, loss of life and destruction of infrastructure happening in Ukraine, I want to help the creative people there to understand that they are not alone and that they have some support from us here in New York,” said the British fashion designer based in New York.
