European Cultural Heritage Days: Free entry to museums, monuments and archaeological sites on 24-25/9

by

This year’s EHPC celebration will run from 23 to 25 September 2022 with the majority of scheduled events being in-person

Between September 23-25, 2022, the Ministry of Culture and Sports is celebrating for the 26th year the European Cultural Heritage Days (EHCD). This year, the common European theme of the celebration is “Sustainable Cultural Heritage – Preserving the past for future generations” (European Heritage Days 2022: Sustainable Heritage – Preserving the past for future generations).

This year’s theme, taking into account the impact of climate change and the environmental burden, has two axes:

1. The protection of cultural heritage (tangible and intangible) and in particular the awareness of restoration techniques and materials of earlier times, the importance of the continuity and promotion of traditions and skills, both at the local/national level and outside European borders, the highlighting good practices from the past that allow us to enjoy historic sites today, as well as the use of new technologies and digital tools to preserve the above parameters of cultural heritage.

2. The adoption of practices and the use of sustainable resources and materials (when organizing this year’s celebration events) that reduce the environmental footprint, thereby making historic sites and monuments accessible to current and future generations. The latter can be achieved by interlinking cultural heritage with landscape and biodiversity conservation through a critical look at current practices.

This year’s celebration of the EHPC will last from 23 to 25 September 2022 with the majority of the planned events being in the physical presence of the public, while there are also some digital actions that may be shown in real time as well as in non-real time, and which in addition to the electronic means of their bodies (websites, social media pages, etc.), will also be hosted on the EHPC Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/EHDaysGR/

and on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/ehpk_greece/

On the weekend of the celebration, September 24 and 25, 2022, entry to the archaeological sites, museums and monuments of the state is free.
