The Colombian singer made the cover of Elle magazine and spoke for the first time about her breakup with Gerard Pique

A few months after her high-profile divorce from Gerard Pique, Shakira “breaks her silence” and speaks for the first time about what has been going on in her personal life in recent months.

After 12 years and having had two children, the couple decided to go their separate ways with the Colombian singer appearing on the cover of the American edition of Elle magazine and revealing in her interview that she “finds it very difficult” to talk about it.

“It’s really hard to talk about this breakup, as this is the first time I’ve talked about this situation in an interview,” he said, as reported by the Daily Mail.

“I stayed cool and tried to process everything. And yes, it’s hard to talk about, especially because I’m still going through it, and because I’m in the public eye, and because our breakup doesn’t feel like a normal breakup. And so it was difficult not only for me, but also for my children. Incredibly difficult” added the Latin singer.

The 45-year-old star revealed that she tried to hide the media “bombardment” from her children because “protecting them is her number one mission in life.”

“But then they hear things at school from their friends or read bad news online and it affects them a lot,” the singer explained.

Regarding Gerard Pique’s new romance, Shakira did not comment on anything.

“I think these details are somehow too private to reveal publicly, at least temporarily, since everything is so new. I can only say that I put my all into my relationship and my family.”

Shakira also spoke of the “nomadic life” they had before their children started school, with them settling permanently in Barcelona because of Pique’s career with Barcelona, rather than moving to the US to continue more easily her music career.

Her split came to light when her father was hospitalized last June after a “bad fall”.

“Yes. I try to hide the situation from them as much as I can. It’s really upsetting for two kids trying to deal with their parents’ separation. And sometimes I feel that this is all a bad dream and that I will wake up at some point. But no, it’s real. And what’s also real is the frustration of seeing something as sacred and as special as I thought the relationship I had with my children’s father was turned into something vulgar and cheap by the media. And all this while my dad was in the ICU and I was fighting on different fronts. Like I said, this is probably the darkest moment of my life. But then I think about all those women around the world who are going through difficulties, who are going through a situation as bad as mine or as difficult as mine or even worse.”
