The famous American rapper Coolio died today at the age of 59 in Los Angeles, probably of a heart attack, and the news of his death caused emotion and sadness.

Coolio is best known for his 1995 hit “Gangsta’s Paradise,” for which he won a Grammy for Best Rap Solo Performance. The song was also the soundtrack to the Michelle Pfeiffer movie Dangerous Minds.

Pfeiffer wrote in an Instagram post: “I was devastated to hear of the passing of the gifted artist @coolio. A life that was completely cut short too soon…I remember him being very kind. 30 years later I still get chills when I listen to (Gangsta’s Paradise).”

Coolio appeared in many films – both as himself and in small roles. The rapper was also known for his love of cooking, which eventually spawned the web series “Cookin’ With Coolio” in 2008.

MC Hammer called Coolio “one of the nicest guys he’s ever met”.

Rapper Ice Cube was also among the many artists who paid tribute to Coolio with messages on social media. “I saw firsthand this man’s rise to the top of the industry,” he tweeted.
