Vanessa Giácomo talks about ‘Travessia’ and explains why she doesn’t take a political stand

Vanessa Giácomo, 39, has more than one reason to celebrate her return to prime time, in the soap opera “Travessia” (Globo), which premieres next Monday (10). She acts for the first time in a plot by author Gloria Perez, and still repeats the partnership with director Mauro Mendonça Filho, with whom she worked on “Amor à Vida” — and loved the experience.

“Glória is a unique author. With her, there is no lukewarm and predictable plot”, says the actress, who considers Mauro “a director who listens to the actor and maintains a very rich exchange”. She doesn’t stop talking well behind his back and says that she is very happy to see him again.

In the new soap opera she will be Leonor, a woman who had a big disappointment with her boyfriend, businessman Moretti (Rodrigo Lombardi). He disappeared without explanation. Years later, she attends her sister Guida’s (Alessandra Negrini) wedding, with whom she is very close, and discovers that her fiancé is the man who abandoned her. A booklet classic.

To give life to Leonor, the actress radicalized and adopted a very short pixie cut — quite a change for those who had blonde hair in a bob cut, marks of the character Cleo, in the miniseries “Filhas de Eva” (Globo). She says, laughing, that she lost count of how many cuts and colors she had to do to get her current hair. “It was worth it, it has everything to do with my character’s personality”, she says, without revealing more details about Leonor.

Politics is the subject of the moment, inevitable, even. But unlike many of her colleagues, Vanessa prefers not to raise flags or publicly declare her vote in this second round of elections. For her, the internet “goes from 8 to 80 seconds” and has no tolerance for error, one of the most human characteristics that exist.

“Each person should have the freedom to feel comfortable using their social network as they think they should, as far as they can. This exposure measure is very personal”, says the actress.
