The 2022 Nobel Prize in Literature goes to the French writer Anne Hernaud

“Ani Erno believes in the liberating power of writing. Her work is uncompromising and written in simple, clear language,” says the Swedish Academy – Tomorrow the Nobel Peace Prize.

French writer Annie Ernaux won this year’s Nobel Prize for Literature, the most important distinction of the 20th and 21st centuries, as announced by the Swedish Academy.

The 82-year-old Erno is being awarded for “the courage and clinical acuity with which she reveals the roots, alienation and collective limitations of personal memory,” the committee said.

“In her book L’occupation, Ernot dissects the social mythology of romantic love. Based on notes in a diary recording her abandonment by a lover, she confesses and attacks a stereotyped self-image. “Writing becomes a sharp weapon that analyzes the truth,” says the Swedish Academy.

“Ani Erno believes in the liberating power of writing. Her work is uncompromising and written in simple, clear language,” the announcement adds.

The prize is awarded by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences and comes with a cash prize of 10 million Swedish kroner (approximately €920,000).

Tomorrow, Friday, the Nobel Peace Prize will be awarded, while next Monday the Economic Sciences awards will also close this year’s round of awards.

There are 343 candidates for this year’s Nobel Peace Prize, and among this year’s bookmakers’ favorites are the Kyiv Independent newspaper, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
