Miller was one of the pioneer female singers of different genres of music
Grammy-winning country singer Jodi Miller dies at 80. The famous singer died at her home in Blanchard, Oklahoma, from complications of Parkinson’s disease.
Miller’s first big hit came in 1964 with her song “He Walks Like a Man” and followed it “Queen of the House”, which he gave her Grammy Award in the Best Actress category in 1966.
Miller was one of the pioneering female vocalists of various genres, crossing over from the pop/folk realm to country music and paving the way for Linda Rodstad, Anne Murray and many others.
“Jodi Miller had this innate, God-given ability to perform and communicate with the most beautiful tones and nuances,” Miller’s longtime spokeswoman Jennifer McMullen said in a statement. “He made it look and sound so easy that sometimes you need time to realize the greatness of what you’re hearing. But she was just as authentic and extraordinary in life as she was on stage and on record,” he added.
Miller retired from touring in the 1980s and went to live with her husband, Monty Brooks, on a horse ranch in Blanchard. There she began a new chapter in her life as a gospel singer.
