Marília Mendonça: Justice orders company to indemnify fan who did not meet singer

by

The São Paulo Justice sentenced Expo Águas de Sumaré, in the interior of São Paulo, to pay compensation of R$ 15 thousand for moral damages to a fan who lost the opportunity to meet singer Marília Mendonça (1996-2021).

In 2018, Caíque Costa was drawn in a promotion made by the events company to meet the singer in the dressing room of a rodeo organized by the events company.

In the process, he said that his image was used to publicize the event, but the company was unable to fulfill his dream of meeting the artist. According to him, the company should call to arrange the meeting, but did not contact him.

The company claimed that it called fans through the event’s sound system, but Costa did not attend. However, the court said that it was up to the organizer of the event to prove having called the fan through the sound system.

Costa won the lawsuit against Expo Águas Sumaré in the first instance. The company appealed and was defeated again, but the decision is still subject to appeal.

Marília Mendonça died at the age of 26 in a plane crash, in the mountains in Piedade de Caratinga, 309 kilometers from Belo Horizonte. She was one of five victims who died in the plane crash.
