The ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ star spoke out about the horrific accident he suffered as a teenager in honor of World Mental Health Day on October 10.
“When I was 19 I fell three stories out of a window and broke my back,” Bloom, who serves as UNICEF’s international goodwill ambassador, said in a video shared by the organization on Instagram.
“I was very lucky to survive the fall because my spinal cord was still intact. In the first four days I was told I might never walk again.”
“That was really the beginning of this long and arduous journey for me in recognizing and understanding certain patterns that existed in my life that had led me to many accidents,” he explained.
“The highlight was breaking my back, which was a near-death experience,” he says.
