The presenter Chris Flores revealed on Thursday (9), in an interview with Venus Podcast, that he managed to make contact with the woman who became known as Taubaté’s pregnant woman, and that everything is “okay” between the two. Maria Verônica Aparecida Santos, a teacher who forged a pregnancy with quadruplets, was unmasked because of Chris’ suspicion after receiving her on a program.
The story turns ten years old in 2022 and, since the farce was discovered, the “pregnant woman” has disappeared from the media. But the journalist claims that she managed to send a message and receive a response from Maria Verônica through a common person. “I sent a message and she sent a message. She said that everything was fine between us,” said Chris. “It’s kind of a love-hate relationship with me. Sometimes it’s a little angry, sometimes a little love.”
“She said she understands what happened, that I was actually the only person who had the courage to say to her face what everyone was thinking,” he continued. “She respected me for that. She was sad with all the repercussions, of having turned into a joke, but then she understood that it’s better to take it as a joke.”
Chris says that, even over the years, she is still frequently asked about the pregnant woman’s story. She even tried to find her in July 2021, in a report on the program “Vem Pra Cá” (SBT), but the film crew ended up being violently expelled from Maria’s current home.
But the journalist did not give up on meeting her again. “We are studying a moment of reunion to sit down, see each other, talk,” he revealed. “Sometimes she says, ‘Oh, but do you have to talk about this subject all the time?’ But people ask me, it’s part of my life too.”
In 2012, Chris Flores presented “Hoje em Dia” (Record), which received the “pregnant woman” as a guest, and already backstage he began to suspect the veracity of the pregnancy. Despite the rarity of this type of pregnancy, it was the size of the woman’s belly that was surprising.
The lie was discovered in a report a few days after Maria Verônica’s participation in the program. The presenter recalls the episode with humor, but confesses that she feels guilty for the impact that the revelation had on the life of the fake pregnant woman.
“Deep down, I feel sorry for her, I feel sorry for her, because I’m sure something happened for her to do this. I feel a lot of guilt too,” Chris vented. “I felt guilty that I was a part of this in some way, but I’ve already asked her forgiveness, too, and it’s okay. I’m dying to find her.”
