The comedians Paulo Vieira and Yuri Marçal and the presenter Astrid Fontenelle participated this Thursday night (20) in a protest in front of the building where the also comedian and musician Eddy Junior, 27, was attacked with racist phrases in Barra Funda, west of São Paulo.

Eddy posted videos on his social media that show fellow resident Elisabeth Morrone, 69, calling him a monkey. She also refused to get into the elevator next to him. The episode took place in the early hours of last Tuesday (18).

“Now it’s like this,” shouted the protesters. They raised posters against racism and projected the phrase “Now it will be like this” on one of the walls of the building. Residents of the condominium flashed apartment lights in support of the protest.

“He was just another case of racism. We know that racism is something that persists in the country and that thousands of cases happen every day,” said Paulo Vieira.

The comedian remembered the singer Seu Jorge, attacked last weekend during a show in Porto Alegre. “It’s no use making money, being successful, having fame. If you’re black, racism will always cross you,” he said.

Yuri Marçal stated that whenever racism occurs, there will be reactions like the protest in front of the building.

Astrid Fontenelle praised the organizers of the act and the residents of the building who participated in the demonstration. “Now it’s time to follow Angela Davis’ thesis: it’s no use being against racism, you have to be anti-racist. That’s why I was there. Joining forces”.

Other artists publicized the demonstration on social media. This was the case of singer Maria Rita and actress Giovanna Ewbank. Singer Preta Gil and actor Bruno Gagliasso also spoke about the attacks on Eddy on social media and demanded measures.

The pensioner who attacked the comedian and musician with racist phrases was fined R$ 4,500 and runs the risk of being expelled from the condominium in Barra Funda.

THE Sheet tried to hear her version from the retiree and sought her out by phone and through the messaging app. In the fourth, she said only that private life “is inviolable” and did not speak further.
