Regina Duarte ‘repeatedly’ publishes false information, and Instagram restricts account

by

Those who decided to follow the official account of Regina Duarte, 75, on Instagram in the last few hours had a surprise. The actress, who was once considered the “little girlfriend of Brazil”, is considered a person who spreads misinformation through the social network.

“Are you sure you want to follow Regina Duarte?” asks a warning on her page. “This account has repeatedly posted false information that was reviewed by independent fact-checkers or that was against our Community Guidelines.”

Publicly, Regina has not yet commented on the matter. She has already declared herself in favor of the reelection of Jair Bolsonaro (PL), she often reposts videos of speeches by the president and his supporters, in addition to criticizing the left and the TSE (Superior Electoral Court).

In recent days, the same warning has appeared for anyone who tried to follow Carla Cecato, formerly of Record, who is currently presenting Bolsonaro’s electoral propaganda. The journalist complained about the restriction on Instagram itself.

She celebrated the followers she gained despite the warning and denied having made any posts that violated the social network’s guidelines. According to her, some of her videos were being taken down by Lula (PT) supporters, who would report on the platform.

“You know what’s funny? I went through Instagram’s guidelines and it says I haven’t posted anything that is affecting my account status,” he said. “I haven’t posted anything, but we can still remove your account if something you post poses a risk to the community. It doesn’t represent a risk, it’s just that I’m being denounced by PT. Everything they denounce is false. They take down my videos, but they don’t it’s fake.”

wanted by F5, Instagram says it uses technology and feedback from its own community to identify posts and accounts that often spread fake news. In addition, since 2019, it has been working with certified independent fact checkers to identify, analyze and label information as false.

The social network further explains that while fake news does not directly violate the Community Guidelines, many of them hide violations of other categories, such as spam or hate speech, which leads to content removal. Repeating these practices often can lead to account removal.

Before that, people who continuously spread false information on Instagram may receive restrictions such as the one that occurred with Regina Duarte and Carla Cecato, with the warning that this user has already published fake news. Other restrictions are the impossibility of being able to tag or mention these people, in addition to making it more difficult to find the posts made by them.

The company also points out that it removes profiles and content with disinformation when there is a possibility that it directly contributes to the risk of imminent bodily harm or when “the content can directly contribute to the interference of the functioning of political processes, in addition to certain highly misleading manipulated media”. .
