Aaron Carter was the center of rivalry between child divas Hilary Duff and Lindsay Lohan in the 2000s

The world of famous teenagers in the 2000s was far from a bed of roses. Betrayals by young lovebirds and ensuing back-and-forth exchanges between heartbroken victims were the order of the day — and Aaron Carter, 34, the singer who died on Saturday (5), starred in one of the most famous feuds between child divas at the turn of the millennium.

Backstreet Boy’s youngest Nick Carter has dated actress and singer Hilary Duff since he was 13, according to UsWeekly. While she played teenager Lizzie McGuire on the Nickelodeon series of the same name, from 2001 to 2004, they were a couple, on and off. Carter made a guest appearance in an episode of the series.

The relationship ended when, according to the singer, he got bored. “I was dating Hilary for a year and a half and got a little bored so I got to know Lindsay [Lohan] and dating her,” he told CNBC in 2005.

Carter’s relationship with Lohan began while he was with Duff, but it didn’t last more than a few months, but the rift between the divas endured and became one of the most enduring rivalries of the 2000s.

The actresses were constantly appearing on each other’s red carpets without being directly invited. In 2003, Duff appeared as an escort to Lindsay Lohan’s love interest Chad Michael Murray in Freaky Friday at the film’s premiere.

In return, Lohan appeared on the red carpet of “Too Twelve” starring Duff. At the time, gossip outlets reported that Duff had asked for Lohan’s expulsion from the after-party.

A few more years of rivalry followed, with co-stars like Murray, Duff’s partner in “The New Cinderella”, and boyfriends, like Duff’s lead singer Good Charlotte, being dragged into the case.

Lohan even joked with Duff during an interview on Saturday Night Live, in 2004, to which the rival responded with the phrase: “I’m not going to talk bad about her like she does to me all the time”.

Over time, the tension eased and they waved white flags. Peace was sealed in 2007, with Lohan’s presence at the release of Duff’s “Dignity” album.
